Vintage Quilt Yellow Pieced Flower Basket with Applique Flowers

This remarkable vintage quilt features 20 charming flower baskets arranged in five rows of four. Each yellow basket holds a different hand-appliquéd floral design, creating a delightful sampler of roses, tulips, pansies and other garden-inspired blooms. A yellow-and-white sawtooth border frames the baskets and beautifully complements the soft assortment of pink, lavender, blue, orange, red and green fabrics.

The true showpiece of this quilt is its fantastic hand quilting. Intricate feathers, leaves, crosshatching, diamonds, scallops and other decorative motifs fill nearly every inch of the white background. The quilting is exceptionally detailed and gives the quilt wonderful texture and a beautifully finished appearance.

Measuring approximately 80" x 92", this quilt has thin batting and drapes nicely. The binding is wrapped from the front to the back and finished with hand stitching. The quilt shows age-related wear, including deterioration and fabric loss in several of the flower appliqués. There is also some yellowing and scattered spotting on the back, as shown in the photographs. These imperfections have been left visible and are part of the quilt’s authentic history.

Dating to approximately the 1930s–1940s, this Appliquéd Flower Basket Sampler is an especially lovely example of Depression-era quilt making. Its varied floral baskets and extraordinary hand quilting make it a wonderful display piece for a vintage quilt collection.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences. I highly recommend testing the colors for fastness before washing this quilt.
