Vintage Quilt Whirling Hexagon

This delightful Whirling Hexagon quilt is a vibrant example of Depression-era ingenuity and design. The pattern was published by the Kansas City Star on July 25, 1936, and later appeared as Texas Trellis (Kansas City Star, July 28, 1943) and Whirling Triangles (Quilter's Newsletter Magazine #68, 1975). A dazzling array of colorful 1930s fabrics—including feedsacks, florals, plaids, shirtings, and cheerful novelty prints—creates the illusion of spinning pinwheels across the quilt's surface. The rich red setting triangles, matching scalloped border, and beautifully shaped edge frame the design perfectly, while the vibrant red backing provides a striking finish.

Measuring 64" x 73", this quilt features a wrapped red binding that has been hand stitched to the back and machine quilting throughout. The scalloped edge adds wonderful visual interest and highlights the movement of the pattern. The quilt remains in very good vintage condition overall, with a few small tears and age-related imperfections noted in the photographs. Its wonderful assortment of period fabrics, bold color palette, and classic 1930s pattern make it an exceptional display piece and a charming addition to any vintage quilt collection.
