Vintage Quilt Sunbonnet Sue

This charming Blue Sunbonnet Sue quilt features 20 hand-appliquéd figures arranged in five color-coordinated rows. Each Sue wears a bonnet embellished with hand-stitched details and delicate embroidered flowers, while her dress showcases a wonderful variety of cheerful florals, plaids and paisleys. Many of these fabrics appear to be vintage feedsacks, giving the quilt an especially appealing Depression-era character. Soft blue sashing and a matching border beautifully frame the cream-colored blocks, while diagonal hand quilting adds lovely texture throughout. Based on the pattern and fabrics, this quilt likely dates to the 1930s–1940s.

Measuring approximately 73" x 88", the quilt has lightweight batting and a hand-stitched applied binding. The quilting and appliqué are entirely hand stitched, including the embroidered floral accents decorating the bonnets. This quilt is in excellent condition, with no notable spots, stains or holes. There is only slight fading to portions of the blue sashing and border. A wonderfully preserved Sunbonnet Sue filled with color, feedsack charm and delightful handwork.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences. Please be certain to color test this quilt before washing.

  • Condition: Very Good vintage condition with a few small spots and one area that appears to be "dirty" (maybe a dog's dirty paw).

  • Size: 73" x 88"

  • Standout: Love the color coordinated Sues!
