This charming antique appliqué quilt features a graceful Rose of Sharon-style floral wreath at its center, encircled by eight whimsical folk art birds in rich turkey red and olive green. The unusual design is unlike any published pattern I have been able to identify, suggesting it may have been an original composition or inspired by early folk art rather than a commercial quilt pattern. Beautifully hand appliquéd and hand quilted, the intricate quilting adds remarkable texture throughout the quilt, with elegant feathered wreaths, floral motifs, and diagonal line work that perfectly complement the appliqué. The quilt measures 68" x 78" and is finished with a traditional knife-edge binding that is hand stitched, a hallmark of many earlier quilts. It remains in excellent condition, making it a wonderful example of early American needlework.

Circa: 1905-1920s While no identical pattern has been identified, several construction details support this dating. The exceptionally fine hand quilting, hand-stitched knife-edge finish, narrow-width white background fabrics, and overall workmanship are all consistent with quilts made during the early decades of the twentieth century. The central Rose of Sharon wreath reflects a motif popular from the late Victorian period into the 1920s, while the stylized birds lend the quilt a distinctive folk art quality rarely encountered in published patterns. Altogether, this is a beautifully executed and highly individual quilt that combines artistic originality with outstanding craftsmanship, making it a truly memorable addition to any antique quilt collection.
