Vintage Lone Star Quilt

A bold red background frames a beautiful eight-pointed star, with rows of colorful diamonds radiating from its floral center. Small floral prints in yellow, blue, red, brown, and cream mingle with solid pink and red, giving this Lone Star—also known as Star of Bethlehem—a cheerful, nostalgic charm.

This quilt is tentatively dated to circa the 1940s, based on its small-scale floral prints, feedsack-style designs, and distinctive color palette. These fabrics are consistent with those used during the 1930s–1950s, although the quilt’s exact completion date is unknown.

Measuring 79" x 88", it has an applied binding finished by hand and hand-stitched quilting, including decorative star motifs in the red background. The quilting is sparse, leaving larger areas unsecured. There is some shifting of the lightweight, slightly lofty batting, and the layers move somewhat independently because of the limited quilting.

There is one area of spotting, shown in the photos. Otherwise, the quilt is in excellent structural condition, with the batting and layer movement noted above.

The spots are of unknown origin and could be biological in nature, including human or animal sources; their origin cannot be definitively identified without testing.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences.
