Vintage Quilt Flower Pot Applique

This charming Appliquéd Flower Pot Quilt is a delightful example of Depression-era craftsmanship, featuring 325 unique hand-appliquéd floral blocks, each showcasing a different flower arrangement in a decorative flower pot. Measuring 71" x 85", the quilt is beautifully framed by soft green sashing and an appliquéd tulip-and-leaf border that gives it the feel of a blooming cottage garden. The maker used a wonderful assortment of fabrics, including solid cottons, printed cottons, feedsack fabrics, and lightweight dress fabrics in cheerful pastel shades. Every appliqué is hand stitched, as is the quilting, creating wonderful texture and highlighting the care and artistry that went into its construction. The quilt is finished with an applied binding that has been hand stitched.

This quilt is being offered as a cutter quilt due to condition. The lightweight batting is thin, has shifted over time, and is missing in some areas, while many of the appliquéd flowers exhibit fabric loss typical of the delicate cottons and dress fabrics used during the period. Despite these imperfections, the quilt remains a stunning visual piece that truly presents as textile art. The intricate floral designs, graceful border, and beautiful hand quilting are captivating, and many of the individual flower blocks and charming tulip border motifs remain excellent candidates for creating beautiful upcycled treasures such as pillows, framed textile art, pouches, totes, ornaments, and other one-of-a-kind heirloom pieces. Whether displayed as a statement piece or thoughtfully repurposed, this quilt continues to celebrate the creativity and resourcefulness of its maker nearly a century after it was created.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences.
