Vintage Quilt Dresden Plate

This charming Vintage Dresden Plate quilt, measuring approximately 62" x 78", is a beautiful example of Depression-era quilt making, dating to circa 1935–1942. This circa is based on the quilt's overall design, construction, and the predominance of its fabrics, as Dresden Plate quilts reached the height of their popularity during the late 1930s and early 1940s. The quilt features twelve hand-appliquéd Dresden Plates, each showcasing a delightful assortment of vintage feedsack fabrics, dress prints, and shirtings. These colorful fabrics, originally used for packaging flour, sugar, and animal feed, were thoughtfully repurposed by resourceful quiltmakers into treasured household quilts. The quilt is machine quilted with an applied binding that is also machine stitched, while the Dresden Plates themselves were carefully hand appliquéd by hand, highlighting the maker's craftsmanship.

This quilt has been well loved and displays the honest signs of a life well lived. There is significant fabric loss and batting shifting at the head of the quilt, along with several spots, all of which are clearly shown in the photographs. These imperfections are reflected in the price and serve as reminders of the quilt's history and use over generations. Please review all photos carefully, as they are considered part of the description and accurately represent the quilt's overall condition.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads.
