Vintage Quilt Cottage Tulip

Bright, cheerful, and beautifully preserved, this Cottage Tulips Quilt is a wonderful example of early 1930s quiltmaking. The pattern was published by the Kansas City Star in 1931 (brackman, 3848), one of the most influential quilt publishers of the era, whose weekly patterns inspired countless American quilters during the Great Depression. The soft butter yellow tulips paired with fresh green leaves create a timeless design that remains just as appealing today as it was nearly a century ago.

Measuring 76" x 90", this quilt is machine pieced, machine quilted, and finished with an applied binding that is machine stitched. The lightweight batting gives the quilt a soft, comfortable drape without excess bulk. It is in excellent condition, with no significant condition issues noted. The buttery yellow backing is exceptionally clean and spotless, leading me to believe this quilt may have seen very little use and was possibly never washed. It has not been laundered by Janj Threads, allowing the next caretaker to decide if and when to clean it.

Whether displayed as a striking piece of Depression-era textile art or enjoyed as a functional quilt, this Cottage Tulips Quilt is a beautiful representation of the enduring legacy of the Kansas City Star quilt patterns. Its outstanding condition, classic 1930s design, and warm, sunny color palette make it a wonderful addition to any vintage quilt collection.

As always, please review all photos carefully, as they are an important part of the description and document the quilt's condition.

Due to the vintage and handmade nature of the items sold at Janj Threads, all sales are final.

We do our very best to carefully inspect each piece and note any flaws, fabric wear, fading, dye bleeding, spots, stains, repairs, or damage within the listing description and photos. However, because these quilts and textiles are often decades old, we may occasionally miss something.

Please take time to carefully review all photos provided for each item before completing your purchase.

Photos containing a green tag are intended to highlight an imperfection or area of concern. The green tag measures approximately 2” x 2” and is included to help give perspective on the size of the flaw. Cutter/Stacker quilts do not have green tags. Please review the photos carefully.
