Vintage Quilt Bucilla "Flower Basket" Cross Stitch Quilt

Charming, cheerful, and beautifully handcrafted, this Bucilla "Flower Basket" Cross Stitch Quilt is a wonderful example of the popular quilt kits that inspired countless stitchers during the 1980s. Measuring a generous 86" x 96", this quilt was created from Bucilla's 1987 "Flower Basket" Add-As-You-Go Cross Stitch Kit. Unlike traditional quilt kits that included all of the blocks, this pattern was sold in individual six-block kits, allowing the maker to purchase as many kits as needed to create the desired quilt size. This larger quilt is a testament to that dedication, with repeating cross-stitched flower baskets forming the primary design while the corner motifs of adjacent blocks come together to create delicate floral wreaths that add a lovely secondary pattern across the quilt.

The quilt is finished with an applied binding that has been hand stitched, and the hand quilting is especially noteworthy. Surrounding each basket and wreath is an elegant crown motif that adds remarkable texture and beautifully frames each embroidered design. The quilt has a lightweight batting with a soft, gentle loft, making it equally suitable as a display piece or a comfortable quilt to enjoy. The crisp white background allows the soft pink florals, green vines, and warm brown baskets to stand out with timeless cottage charm. Whether you're a collector of Bucilla kits, cross stitch, or vintage quilts, this beautifully executed example showcases the patience, craftsmanship, and creativity that made these Add-As-You-Go kits so beloved.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences.

  • Condition: Excellent
  • Circa: 1987–1990s. This quilt was made from Bucilla's 1987 "Flower Basket" Add-As-You-Go Cross Stitch Kit. Each kit included six embroidered blocks, and makers purchased multiple kits to create a quilt in their preferred size. The generous 86" x 96" dimensions reflect the maker's commitment to expanding the original design into a full-size bed quilt. The combination of hand-stitched cross stitch, hand quilting, and hand-finished binding makes this a wonderful example of late twentieth-century needlework and quilting craftsmanship.
