Vintage Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt

THIS IS A CUTTER/STACKER QUILT

This charming Vintage Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt is filled with wonderful period fabrics and handwork. Measuring 62" x 78", it features dozens of hexagon flower motifs set against a soft lavender background. The quilt is entirely hand quilted and finished with an applied hand-sewn binding. A delightful mix of florals, plaids, ginghams, shirtings, and novelty prints creates a beautiful fabric archive for collectors, restorers, and makers looking for authentic vintage textiles.

This quilt is being offered as a cutter due to condition issues. There are two small holes, yellowing and spots on the backing, fraying along the binding, and the thin backing fabric shows wear. The thin batting has shifted over time, creating small lumps and uneven areas throughout the quilt. Despite these condition concerns, the quilt retains excellent visual appeal and contains a wonderful assortment of usable vintage fabrics, making it an excellent candidate for repurposing, restoration projects, pillows, bags, bears, jackets, and other creative endeavors.   • Circa: 1940s - 1960s  This quilt was likely created during the mid-20th century using a collection of fabrics accumulated over many years. The assortment of plaids, ginghams, shirtings, florals, and dress fabrics is characteristic of quilts made from saved household and garment scraps, a common practice of the era. While some individual fabrics may date earlier, the lavender setting fabric and overall construction suggest the quilt was assembled sometime between the 1940s and 1960s. Its cheerful scrappy palette and hand-crafted construction reflect the resourcefulness and creativity that made Grandmother's Flower Garden quilts enduring favorites among American quiltmakers.
