Vintage Gandmother's Fan Quilt

Few patterns capture the cheerful spirit of the 1930s quite like the Grandmother's Fan. This beautiful vintage example showcases a delightful assortment of feedsack and apparel fabrics arranged in fan-shaped blocks that dance across a crisp white background. Shades of pink, blue, teal, red, and cream create a lively patchwork of prints, many likely salvaged from dresses, aprons, feedsacks, and household textiles of the era. Quilts like this tell the story of resourceful makers who transformed everyday fabrics into treasured family heirlooms.

Equally impressive is the quilting. This quilt has been hand quilted throughout with graceful echo quilting that radiates around each fan, creating remarkable movement and texture across both the front and back. It is finished with a hand-sewn wrap-around binding, a lovely detail often found on well-made vintage quilts. Measuring 66" x 81", this quilt is clean, soft, and in excellent condition. The lightweight batting and beautiful hand quilting give it the wonderful drape and texture that collectors and vintage quilt lovers appreciate. A charming example of Depression-era craftsmanship that remains as beautiful today as when it was first stitched together.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads.

The quilt reflects the enduring popularity of fan-pattern quilts during the mid-century years, when quiltmakers often combined treasured scraps, feedsack fabrics, and dress prints into colorful, practical works of art. The extensive hand quilting and applied binding are hallmarks of traditional American quilt making from this era.

Please Read Before Purchasing 🤍

Due to the vintage and handmade nature of the items sold at Janj Threads, all sales are final.

We do our very best to carefully inspect each piece and note any flaws, fabric wear, fading, dye bleeding, spots, stains, repairs, or damage within the listing description and photos. However, because these quilts and textiles are often decades old, we may occasionally miss something.

Please take time to carefully review all photos provided for each item before completing your purchase.

Photos containing a green tag are intended to highlight an imperfection or area of concern. The green tag measures approximately 2” x 2” and is included to help give perspective on the size of the flaw. Cutter/Stacker quilts do not have green tags. Please review the photos carefully.

Vintage quilts and textiles carry the beauty of age, history, and use, and minor imperfections are often part of their story and charm.
