Antique Quilt Nine Patch on Point

This beautiful Antique Nine Patch On Point Quilt is a wonderful example of late Victorian craftsmanship, dating to circa 1885–1895. Hand pieced and hand quilted, it features classic Nine Patch blocks set on point against a soft woven pink homespun-effect background that beautifully showcases the maker's carefully chosen fabrics. The quilt is filled with an exceptional assortment of authentic late nineteenth-century textiles, including indigo floral calicos, woven shirtings, tiny geometric prints, delicate sage greens, and rich burgundy fabrics that were commonly used during the 1880s and 1890s. The original coordinating pink calico backing and applied hand-stitched binding further support its late Victorian origins, making this a wonderfully cohesive and historically significant textile.

Measuring 75" x 86", the quilt is finished with an applied binding that is hand stitched, while the quilting is entirely hand stitched throughout. It contains thin batting with some shifting, consistent with a well-loved quilt of this age. There is gentle fading throughout, giving the quilt the soft, mellow patina that collectors often admire in authentic nineteenth-century textiles, along with one small hole, as shown in the photographs. Despite these honest signs of age, the quilt remains in remarkable condition for being well over 130 years old, a testament to the care it has received over the generations.
