Antique Quilt Blue Calico Double Irish Chain

This beautiful vintage Double Irish Chain quilt features interlocking chains of deep navy and lighter blue floral-print cottons against a creamy white background. The classic blue-and-white palette is timeless, while the large open areas showcase the maker’s lovely hand-stitched quilting.

Measuring approximately 70" x 76", the quilt has a narrow binding folded from the front to the back and finished by hand. The batting is thin, giving the quilt a lightweight feel and allowing the detailed quilting to remain beautifully visible.

The quilt is structurally sound; however, it has significant fading through the center. Some of the blue fabrics have faded to muted gray, brown and tan shades, as shown in the photographs. There is also one small area of seam separation, which is photographed for reference.

A wonderfully graphic antique quilt with beautiful handwork, authentic age and plenty of vintage character.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences. I highly recommend testing the colors for fastness before washing this quilt. Please read the stain disclaimer below as all sales are final.

  • Condition: Good. Structurally sound but has significant fading, small spots on the front and one small seam separation.
  • Circa: Based on the small-scale printed cotton fabrics, blue-and-white color palette, hand construction, detailed hand quilting and overall style, this Double Irish Chain quilt is estimated to date from approximately 1890–1910.
  • Size: 70" x 76"
  • Batting: Thin/None
  • Standout: Despite the fading this quilt remains remarkable.
  • Shipping: (within the continental U.S.) shipping/insurance is included in the price of the item.
