Vintage Grandmother's Flower Garden Crib Quilt

This charming little quilt is a wonderful example of how quilts evolved and were lovingly reused through the generations. Measuring 44" x 48", it is the perfect size for a crib, nursery wall display, stroller, or favorite cuddle companion. The colorful hexagon flower garden center appears to be the oldest portion of the quilt, showcasing an abundance of feedsack fabrics and cheerful prints commonly found in quilts from the 1930s and 1940s. At some point later in its life, the center was thoughtfully incorporated into a new quilt, surrounded by soft pink and white borders, backing, and binding that create a sweet and timeless frame for the vintage patchwork.

Hand quilted and hand bound, this quilt has a wonderfully lofty, airy feel that makes it both lightweight and cozy. The soft cotton fabrics give it an inviting hand, while the colorful hexagons tell a story of careful thrift and creativity. Based on the fabrics and construction, I believe the hexagon center was likely created during the 1930s–1940s feedsack era and then repurposed into this finished quilt sometime between the 1960s and 1980s. It is a delightful piece of quilt history—a quilt that has already lived more than one life and is ready to become part of another. Whether displayed in a nursery or treasured as a special baby quilt, it carries the warm, nostalgic spirit that Janj Threads loves to celebrate.
