This is a Cutter/Stacker Quilt

Bring a touch of authentic vintage charm to your next creative project with this beautifully timeworn yellow and white checkerboard cutter quilt. Measuring approximately 72" x 80", this quilt is filled with character and tells the story of decades of love and use.

The simple checkerboard design is enhanced by machine quilting in a graceful all-over pattern that creates wonderful texture and movement. One of its most charming features is the collection of very faint remnants of fruit and floral images visible within many of the white blocks. These appear to have originated as vintage iron-on transfers, leaving behind soft ghost-like impressions that add a unique layer of history and whimsy.

This quilt is being offered as a cutter quilt due to its condition. There is extensive fabric deterioration and loss throughout the quilt, particularly in the yellow fabrics, creating a beautifully aged patina that many textile artists and makers seek for one-of-a-kind creations. The binding is machine applied and shows fraying and tears in several areas. The quilt is machine quilted with a medium-weight batting.

Based on the fabrics, construction, and overall style, I estimate this quilt dates to circa 1940s–1950s. As with many vintage textiles, this date is an educated estimate based on the materials and techniques used.
