Vintage Utility Quilt Football Stadium Quilt

Made to be used and enjoyed, this wonderfully scrappy utility quilt is ready for football season! Its lively patchwork combines pinwheels, triangles, flying-geese-like units, and improvisational blocks in a colorful assortment of florals, calicos, novelty prints, checks, and solid fabrics. Measuring approximately 62" x 84", it is the perfect size to spread across those uncomfortable metal or wooden bleachers, wrap around your shoulders on a chilly fall evening, or keep in the car for tailgates and outdoor events.

The quilt has medium-weight batting for a little extra warmth and cushioning. It is quilted by machine, with later hand-stitched reinforcement that reflects its practical, well-used history. The brown backing is brought from back to front to form the binding, which is finished by hand. Based on the varied fabrics and earthy brown, orange, green, turquoise, and purple palette, this quilt most likely dates to the 1970s–1980s, although—as is common with utility quilts—some of the scraps may be older. This is not a fussy quilt waiting to be tucked away; it is a comfortable, hardworking vintage quilt ready for the bleachers, the sidelines, and plenty of Friday-night memories.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences.
