Vintage Sunbonnet Sue Quilt

THIS IS A CUTTER/STACKER QUILT

This charming vintage Sunbonnet Sue quilt features 30 individually dressed Sue blocks, each showcasing a unique selection of fabrics. The quilt incorporates a delightful mix of feedsack prints, dressmaking fabrics, florals, calicos, and geometric patterns dating from approximately the 1930s through the 1950s. Soft mint-green lattice sashing frames each block beautifully, while hand quilting throughout creates wonderful texture and movement across the surface. Every Sue has her own distinct personality, making this quilt feel like a scrapbook of mid-century American textiles.

This quilt is hand appliquéd, hand quilted, and hand bound. The binding is hand finished and complements the overall softness of the piece. It is being offered as a cutter quilt due to significant wear along the upper border, where portions of the fabric have worn through and torn. A couple of the Sunbonnet Sue blocks exhibit fabric loss, and one block has a small hole. Despite these condition issues, the quilt remains a wonderful source of authentic vintage fabrics and appliqué blocks, offering exceptional repurposing potential while preserving the charm and craftsmanship of the original maker.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Due to the presence certain fabrics, we believe there is a risk of dye transfer or bleeding if washed. For this reason, we have chosen to leave the quilt in its current condition and allow the next caretaker to determine the best preservation method.

Due to the vintage and handmade nature of the items sold at Janj Threads, all sales are final.

We do our very best to carefully inspect each piece and note any flaws, fabric wear, fading, dye bleeding, spots, stains, repairs, or damage within the listing description and photos. However, because these quilts and textiles are often decades old, we may occasionally miss something.

Please take time to carefully review all photos provided for each item before completing your purchase.

Photos containing a green tag are intended to highlight an imperfection or area of concern. The green tag measures approximately 2” x 2” and is included to help give perspective on the size of the flaw. Cutter/Stacker quilts do not have green tags. Please review the photos carefully.

Vintage quilts and textiles carry the beauty of age, history, and use, and minor imperfections are often part of their story and charm.
