Vintage Quilt Dresden Plate Variation

This exceptional Dresden Plate Variation quilt is a beautiful example of Depression-era craftsmanship, showcasing twenty hand-appliquéd plates created from a delightful assortment of colorful feedsack fabrics, florals, calicos, ginghams, and geometric prints. Each plate is uniquely arranged, giving the quilt wonderful visual interest while reflecting the resourcefulness and artistry of its maker. A striking sawtooth border frames the quilt beautifully, and the applied binding has been meticulously finished with hand stitching. Based on the fabrics, construction techniques, and overall design, this quilt is best dated to circa the late 1930s to early 1940s.

The workmanship throughout is truly outstanding. The plates are hand appliquéd, and the quilt features spectacular hand quilting with beautifully executed floral and scroll motifs that add remarkable texture and dimension. It has a light-to-medium weight batting, making it suitable for display or use. Remarkably, this quilt has likely never been washed, as the original quilter's guideline markings are still visible in places—a wonderful detail that speaks to its careful preservation. Measuring 80" x 92", this quilt remains in excellent condition and is an outstanding example of vintage American quiltmaking, ready to be treasured for generations to come.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences.
