Vintage Quilt Sunbonnet Sue Crib Size

Sweet and nostalgic, this vintage Sunbonnet Sue baby quilt features twelve charming hand-appliquéd Sue figures, each dressed in a unique floral fabric and accented with decorative blanket stitching. Measuring 40" x 53", this delightful nursery-size quilt has been hand quilted throughout and finished with a folded (front-to-back) binding that has been hand stitched. The thin batting gives it a soft, lightweight feel, making it perfect for display or gentle use. Based on the fabrics, appliqué style, and construction techniques, I estimate this quilt dates to the 1970s–1980s, a period when Sunbonnet Sue designs enjoyed a renewed popularity among home quilters.

This quilt has been laundered by Janj Threads and presents beautifully overall. All 12 Sunbonnet Sue appliqués remain intact, preserving the quilt's charming character. There is some yellowing and scattered spotting, as shown in the photographs, consistent with its vintage age and noted for complete transparency. Whether displayed in a nursery, hung as wall art, or added to a vintage quilt collection, this cheerful Sunbonnet Sue quilt is a wonderful example of handcrafted Americana with timeless appeal.

  • Condition: Good
  • Circa: 1970s–1980s. The quilt's cheerful Sunbonnet Sue motif, coordinated pastel floral quilting cottons, decorative blanket-stitch appliqué, and hand quilting are all characteristic of the revival of traditional quilt patterns during the country decorating movement of the late 1970s and 1980s. These construction methods and fabric prints strongly support a vintage, rather than antique, date of origin.
  • Size: 40"x53"
  • Batting: Lightweight
  • Standout: Just cute!
  • Shipping: (within the continental U.S.) and shipping insurance is included in the price of the item.
