Vintage Quilt Sunbonnet Sue and Overall Sam

Few quilt patterns capture the warmth and nostalgia of mid-century American quilting quite like Sunbonnet Sue & Overall Sam, and this delightful example is full of personality. Alternating hand-appliquéd figures dressed in an assortment of cheerful 1930s and 1940s-era prints create a playful checkerboard design against soft buttery yellow and white blocks. Each figure is finished with bold black blanket stitching, while beautiful hand quilting in diagonal lines adds texture and showcases the maker's exceptional craftsmanship. The original quilter's guideline markings remain visible in several areas, suggesting this quilt has likely never been laundered—a wonderful feature for collectors who appreciate quilts in remarkably original condition.

Measuring approximately 78" x 88", this quilt features an applied binding that has been hand stitched, lightweight batting, and lovely, even hand quilting throughout. It remains in great condition, with only two small spots noted. Its combination of charming folk-art design, carefully selected vintage fabrics, and outstanding preservation makes this a wonderful piece for both collectors and those looking for a cheerful antique quilt to display or enjoy.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences.
