Vintage Quilt Sunbonnet Sue with Nosegay

This delightful Sunbonnet Sue quilt features twenty individually dressed Sues arranged against crisp white blocks and framed with soft mint-green sashing. Each Sue is hand appliquéd in a cheerful assortment of floral calicos, checks, paisleys, and colorful solid fabrics. Hand-embroidered arms, nosegays (flower baskets), and floral details give the figures an especially charming personality. Although Sunbonnet Sue is an early twentieth-century pattern closely associated with 1930s quiltmaking, the fabric selection, color palette, and construction place this example in the later quilt-revival period, most likely circa 1970s–1980s.

Measuring approximately 72" x 88", the quilt is finished with an applied binding that was stitched by hand. The quilting is machine stitched, and the thin batting gives the quilt a lightweight feel with wonderful texture and crinkle. This quilt is in excellent vintage condition, making it a lovely choice for display, farmhouse decorating, or continued gentle use.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences.
