Rich in history and timeless in design, this beautiful Vintage Star and Diamond Quilt showcases one of the most enduring quilt patterns of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Known by several names over the decades—including Amethyst, published in the Kansas City Star on February 7, 1932; Priscilla, offered by the Ladies' Art Company as Pattern #199 beginning in 1895; and Diamond Star, as listed in The Collector's Dictionary of Quilt Names and Patterns (1980)—this pattern is identified in Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns as Pattern #2975a. Whatever name you prefer, the striking interplay of stars and diamonds creates a wonderfully dynamic design that has captivated quilters for generations. Measuring 62" x 83", this quilt has been hand pieced and hand quilted, with a finely finished knife-edge binding that is hand stitched. The quilt's cheerful yellow background beautifully showcases a delightful assortment of Depression-era prints, including shirtings, florals, geometrics, ginghams, and probable feed sack fabrics dating primarily to the 1930s.

This quilt has been exceptionally well preserved. The thin batting gives it a soft, lightweight feel while allowing the beautiful hand quilting to remain the star of the show. There are only a few very minor seam separations, consistent with its age, but overall it remains in remarkable vintage condition and displays beautifully. The backing fabric is a beautiful cheddar. Whether admired as an important piece of quilt history, used as a bed covering, or displayed as textile art, this quilt is a wonderful example of Depression-era craftsmanship and the enduring appeal of one of America's classic quilt patterns.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences.
