Vintage Quilt Spanish Rose Cross Stitch Kit

This beautiful Spanish Rose cross stitch quilt is a wonderful example of the popularity of stamped embroidery quilt kits during the 1960s and 1970s. This design was sold as Bucilla Kit #2009 and was featured in McCall's Needlework & Crafts Fall-Winter edition 1966–1976. Originally offered in both Single and Double sizes, the kit gave makers the option of stitching the floral design in black, aqua, or gold embroidery floss. The maker of this quilt chose a lovely purple instead, creating a unique interpretation of the classic pattern. The beautifully hand-stitched cross stitch embroidery is complemented by exquisite hand quilting, adding texture and craftsmanship that elevate this piece beyond the original kit design.

Measuring approximately 82" x 96", the quilt features an applied binding that has been hand stitched, lightweight batting, and exceptionally well-executed hand quilting throughout. It remains in fair vintage condition, with a few scattered spots and two small holes, one of which appears to be a cigarette burn extending through all layers. These imperfections are reflected in the price and are shown in the accompanying photos. Despite its condition issues, this quilt remains a striking display piece and a wonderful example of mid-century needlework that would be equally at home on a bed, displayed on a wall, or cherished as part of a vintage textile collection.
