Vintage Quilt Grandmother's Flower Garden

THIS IS A CUTTER/STACKER QUILT

A garden of 94 patchwork flowers, filled with the charm of vintage feedsack fabrics! This Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt features a delightful mixture of feedsack prints, other vintage printed cottons, and solid-colored cottons. Small florals, playful geometric designs, and scattered novelty-style motifs offer plenty to discover among the soft blues, greens, lavenders, pinks, and peach tones. Yellow centers and white pathways bring the colorful garden together.

Measuring 78" x 80", this quilt is hand quilted with thin batting and a hand-stitched knife’s-edge finish that follows its shaped outline. Its fabrics and color palette suggest a circa 1930s–1940s date.

This quilt has notable wear and is offered as a restoration or cutter quilt. Fourteen of the 94 flowers have notable damage, including fabric loss, deterioration, and fracturing; the remaining 80 flowers are intact. The knife’s-edge binding has significant fraying and tears. Please examine all photographs closely to appreciate both the surviving fabrics and the areas of damage.

I have not washed this quilt. I believe a gentle soaking could brighten its overall appearance, although results cannot be guaranteed. Any laundering should begin with colorfastness testing and take the fragile fabrics into consideration, as soaking and handling may cause further loss.

A lovely piece for a feedsack enthusiast, thoughtful restoration, or creative projects that give its surviving flowers a second life. This quilt would be ideal for stacking to display as the bottom half has mostly intact flowers and the quilt could be folded to display this portion.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences.

We do our very best to carefully inspect each piece and note any flaws, fabric wear, fading, dye bleeding, spots, stains, repairs, or damage within the listing description and photos. However, because these quilts and textiles are often decades old, we may occasionally miss something.

Please take time to carefully review all photos provided for each item before completing your purchase.

Photos containing a green tag are intended to highlight an imperfection or area of concern. The green tag measures approximately 2” x 2” and is included to help give perspective on the size of the flaw. Cutter/Stacker quilts do not have green tags. Please review the photos carefully.

Vintage quilts and textiles carry the beauty of age, history, and use, and minor imperfections are often part of their story and charm. If you have any questions about an item, please reach out prior to purchase. We are always happy to help.
