Vintage Quilt Double Wedding Ring

Few quilt patterns capture the spirit of American quilting quite like the Double Wedding Ring. Although variations of interlocking rings appeared earlier, the pattern became a national sensation after the Kansas City Star published it in 1930, quickly becoming one of the most beloved quilt designs of the Depression era. Measuring 70" x 82", the quilt is finished with an applied binding that has been hand stitched. The binding shows some fraying consistent with its age, and there are a few spots visible on both the front and back. As is often found in well-loved quilts of this era, a handful of the fabrics within the rings exhibit fabric loss or deterioration, reflecting the use of cherished scraps that had already lived a life before becoming part of this quilt.
