Vintage Quilt Grandmother's Fan

This is a cutter/stacker quilt.

This charming Grandmother's Fan quilt showcases one of America's most beloved vintage quilt patterns, with graceful fan blocks created from a delightful assortment of reproduction-era and vintage prints. The maker incorporated a wonderful mix of florals, dots, stripes, plaids, novelty prints, and shirtings, giving each fan its own personality while creating a colorful patchwork that celebrates the resourcefulness of quiltmakers of the era. Measuring 76" x 84", the quilt is entirely hand pieced and hand quilted, finished with an applied binding that is hand stitched, and contains lightweight batting that has shifted over time. Based on the fabrics and construction techniques, this quilt most likely dates to the 1930s–1940s.

This quilt is being offered as a cutter quilt due to extensive condition issues. There is widespread fabric loss, seam separation, fraying, and torn binding, along with additional wear consistent with many decades of use. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the description and show the specific areas of damage. While it is no longer suitable for everyday use as a bed quilt, it remains an outstanding source of authentic vintage fabrics for creative repurposing into pillows, bags, jackets, ornaments, textile art, and other one-of-a-kind heirloom-inspired projects. Its beautiful variety of period fabrics ensures that many pieces can enjoy a second life in the hands of a new maker.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences.
