Graceful, elegant, and beautifully crafted, this vintage floral appliqué quilt is believed to have been made from a commercial quilt kit dating to the 1930s. Measuring 78" x 80", the quilt features a sweeping floral border surrounding a balanced center bouquet, all set against a crisp white background that showcases the exceptional hand quilting. The floral appliqué is finished with fine machine stitching, while the quilt itself is beautifully hand quilted throughout and completed with an applied binding that is hand stitched. I believe the green stems and scapes were at one time more vibrant and have faded over time.

This quilt originated from a commercially available quilt kit or stamped appliqué pattern from the Hershner's Catalog 1938-39. The kit was manufactured by Home Needlecraft Creations and cost $2.38. The kit was called "Yankee Garden".

There is no batting, giving the quilt a wonderfully lightweight drape that makes it perfect as a summer quilt or for display. The quilt remains in excellent vintage condition with only a few small spots on both the front and back, as shown in the photographs. Overall, this is a beautifully preserved example of a 1930s floral appliqué quilt that combines the appeal of commercial quilt kit history with the artistry of skilled hand quilting.
