Vintage Quilt Dresden Plate

This vintage Dresden Plate quilt features 20 charming six-blade plates arranged in four rows of five. The pattern is documented as Dresden Plate #3411 in Barbara Brackman’s Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns. Each plate is assembled from six generously rounded blades and finished with a cheerful yellow center, then appliquéd to the white background with hand stitching. The wonderful assortment of pastel florals, geometrics and likely feedsack or period dressmaking cottons is beautifully framed by wide bands of mint green, white and deep green. Hand-stitched quilting includes diagonal lines across the center and lovely floral motifs within the borders. Based on the fabrics and design, this quilt likely dates to the 1930s–early 1940s.

Measuring approximately 75" x 83", the quilt has lightweight batting and a hand-stitched knife-edge finish. One plate has fabric loss to a single blade, and there is some yellowing on one square, several popped quilting stitches and a small tear at the head of the quilt. Even with these age-related issues, it remains a beautiful and inviting vintage quilt with wonderful color, detailed handwork and abundant period charm.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences.
