Vintage Quilt Dresden Plate

his beautiful vintage quilt is a wonderfully scrappy Dresden Plate variation, filled with the color, texture, and personality that make quilts from this era so special. Measuring 66" x 76", the quilt features circular plates constructed from dozens of narrow fabric wedges surrounding soft peach centers. The plates are closely arranged across a white ground, with the design carried all the way to the edges to create a charming scalloped effect.

The fabric assortment is truly a snapshot of the 1930s and 1940s sewing basket. The plates contain an eclectic mix of cotton calicoes, tiny florals, ginghams, checks, stripes, shirtings, solids, geometric prints, and fabrics consistent with the feedsack era. Soft blues, pinks, lavender, yellow, green, red, brown, and peach mingle throughout, with no two plates quite alike. Some of the fabrics may predate the quilt itself, which was common in scrappy quilts where every precious bit of usable cloth was saved and eventually found its place in a quilt.

The quilt is beautifully hand quilted at approximately 8 stitches per inch (SPI). Dense quilting fills the white background and continues through the plates and peach centers, creating wonderful texture and highlighting the maker's handwork. The lightweight batting provides just enough loft to give the quilt that soft, puckered vintage crinkle that is so loved in old quilts.

The applied binding is hand stitched and does show some fraying consistent with its age and use. A hanging sleeve has been added to the back, making this quilt ready to hang and enjoy as a beautiful piece of vintage textile art.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretake to preserve the quilt according to their prefernces.
