Vintage Quilt Colonial Lady

This cheerful vintage Colonial Lady quilt measures approximately 78" x 98" and features 20 beautifully dressed ladies arranged across a warm golden-yellow background. Each lady is hand appliquéd in her own colorful combination of plaids, ginghams, stripes, florals, paisleys, and novelty cotton prints. Coordinating bonnets and parasols complete the figures, while black hand-embroidered details form their arms, hands, necklines, and parasol handles. Chocolate-brown sashing frames each block and gives the quilt a wonderfully rich, graphic appearance.

The quilting is hand stitched, with diagonal quilting across the blocks, outline quilting around the appliqué, and an attractive interlocking design through the brown sashing and border. It has lightweight batting with a bit of loft and is finished with a hand-stitched knife’s-edge binding. The quilt is in excellent condition, with one small spot on the front as noted in the photographs. Based on its fabrics, colors, and construction, this Colonial Lady quilt most likely dates to the 1970s–1980s.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences.
