**SOLD Vintage Quilt Butterfly Applique  SOLD**

This delightful vintage Blue Butterfly Quilt measures approximately 74" x 82" and features 42 colorful butterflies displayed against cream cotton blocks and framed by a wonderful blue lattice-style sashing. Each butterfly is made from a different vintage cotton print, including florals, plaids, stripes, geometrics, and fabrics that appear to include feedsack and dressmaking cottons. The butterflies were originally hand appliquéd and embellished with black stitching to define their wings, bodies, and antennae. At some later point, portions of the appliqué were also reinforced with machine stitching.

The quilt is hand quilted and finished with an applied binding that is hand stitched. Even more special, it came with a handwritten index card on which a previous owner recorded a short story about the quilt; that card will accompany it to its next home. With its lively assortment of fabrics, charming folk-art butterflies, and documented personal history, this is a quilt with both visual appeal and a meaningful connection to its past. Based on the fabrics and construction, it most likely dates to the late 1930s–1940s.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences.
