Vintage Quilt Bow Tie

THIS IS A CUTTER/STACKER QUILT

This vintage Bow Tie quilt, pattern #3608 in Barbara Brackman’s Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns, measures approximately 64" x 64". Its scrappy Bow Tie blocks form a wonderful secondary design of interlocking rings and large white octagons, all framed by a soft pink border. The quilt contains an appealing assortment of floral, gingham, striped, polka-dot, paisley, geometric and novelty-print cottons. Many appear to be feedsack and dress fabrics typical of the Depression era. It is hand quilted, contains thin batting and is finished with an applied binding that is hand stitched. Years of use and laundering have given it an exceptionally soft hand and a lovely vintage crinkle.

This quilt is being offered as a cutter due to seam separation, fraying, fabric deterioration and holes scattered throughout the quilt, border and backing. Several fabrics have split or worn away, with some larger damaged areas clearly shown in the photographs. Despite its condition, it retains beautiful color, abundant vintage character and many sections that may be suitable for careful repurposing into pillows, animals, framed pieces and other creative projects. Circa 1930s–1940s, based on the traditional Bow Tie pattern, hand construction and assortment of probable feedsack and Depression-era dress-print cottons.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences. Please be certain to color test this quilt before washing.
