Vintage Quilt Blazing Star

This charming vintage Blazing Star Quilt is a wonderful example of a classic eight-point star design constructed from numerous 45-degree diamonds. According to Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns, this arrangement is known as Blazing Star, though the pattern has appeared under many names throughout quilting history, including Star of the East (Carlie Sexton), Combination Feather Star (Aunt Martha, 1933), Bright Morning Star (Kansas City Star, 1950), and several others. Each approximately 12" x 12" star block features center and outer point diamonds cut from the same fabric, while the intermediate points are fashioned from contrasting fabrics, creating striking depth and movement. The quilt showcases a delightful assortment of Depression-era prints, florals, plaids, shirtings, geometrics, and small-scale novelty fabrics that make every block unique. It is entirely hand pieced, hand quilted, and finished with a folded binding turned from the back to the front and hand stitched. A comfortable midweight cotton batting gives the quilt a soft, substantial feel.

This quilt is being offered as a cutter quilt due to its extensive condition issues. Many of the lighter fabrics have experienced significant deterioration and fabric loss, while many of the colorful printed fabrics remain surprisingly vibrant and intact. The backing is a solid white cotton sheeting with hand quilting visible throughout, and the quilting pattern beautifully echoes the geometry of the stars. The quilt retains tremendous visual appeal and offers a wonderful collection of authentic vintage fabrics for restoration projects, textile art, or repurposing. Please study the photographs carefully, as they accurately document the areas of fabric loss and wear. Despite its condition, this quilt remains a beautiful piece of American quilt-making history and an excellent source of genuine vintage fabrics.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences.
