Whirling Fans Variation Quilt

This wonderfully time-softened vintage quilt features a striking variation of the Whirling Fans pattern. Colorful, scrappy fans are carefully arranged to create sweeping circular forms and a large diamond-shaped design across the quilt. The assortment of florals, stripes, checks, polka dots and novelty prints appears to include feed sack and dress fabrics, giving the quilt plenty of Depression-era charm. 

Measuring 72" x 72", the quilt has an applied binding that is hand stitched. It is hand quilted and contains thin batting, making it lightweight with a soft, beautifully crinkled texture.

This quilt shows considerable evidence of its age and use. There are yellow spots across the front, and the binding is badly frayed and deteriorated. Please review all photographs carefully for condition.

This quilt has not been laundered by Janj Threads. Any cleaning decisions have been left to the next caretaker to preserve the quilt according to their preferences. I highly recommend testing the colors for fastness before washing this quilt. 

  • Condition: Fair. There is some yellowing on the front. The binding is badly frayed in some areas. See Photos
  • Circa: Approximately 1936–1945. The Whirling Fans design was published in 1936, while the fabrics and construction are consistent with the late Depression and early World War II era
