Antique Quilt Hexagonal Set on Point

Bold, graphic, and rich with history, this antique Hexagonal Quilt Set on Point is a beautiful example of early twentieth-century American quiltmaking. Measuring 70 x 60 inches, the quilt showcases six-point stars nestled within vibrant Turkey red hexagons, all connected by a striking on-point cream lattice that creates wonderful movement across the surface. Each star is pieced from a delightful assortment of period fabrics, including shirtings, plaids, checks, and early printed cottons, with several conversation prints that invite a closer look. The quilt is entirely hand quilted, and its medium-weight batting has shifted naturally over the past century, adding to the character and authenticity expected of a well-loved antique textile.

The Hexagonal pattern was published as Pattern No. 47 by the Ladies Art Company, widely recognized as America's first mail-order quilt pattern company. Although the exact publication date of the company's first Diagrams of Quilt, Sofa and Pin Cushion Patterns catalog is unknown, advertisements from 1895 reference a catalog containing 272 patterns, placing Pattern No. 47 among the company's earliest published designs. The combination of this documented pattern history with the quilt's hand-pieced construction, hand quilting, Turkey red fabrics, and the wonderful assortment of late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century shirtings and printed cottons supports a circa 1900–1915 dating.
