Antique Cheddar and Turkey Red Four Patch with Diagonal Strips Quilt

This wonderfully graphic antique quilt features a Four Patch with Diagonal Strips design worked in rich Turkey red, warm cheddar yellow, and crisp white cotton. Each larger block is composed of four smaller striped units that have been carefully rotated, creating lively pinwheels, interlocking ribbons, diamonds, and other secondary designs across the quilt.

The quilt is hand pieced and beautifully hand quilted, with rows of stitching following the geometric shapes. Thick batting gives it substantial weight and warmth, making this a much heavier quilt than many antique examples. A charming assortment of checked fabrics forms the outer border, adding an unexpected touch of blue, pink, tan, and cream. The binding is wrapped from the back to the front and finished by hand.

The claret or Turkey red coloring, cheddar-yellow fabric, checked shirtings, pattern, and hand construction suggest a date of approximately 1890–1920.

Measuring 65" x 78", this quilt is in very good antique condition. There is some slight fading consistent with age and one small spot on the back. Please review all photographs closely for condition and details.

A bold and memorable antique quilt with wonderful movement, beautiful handwork, and a warm, substantial fee
